Chinese Dragon

I had to do some research on this painting. I wanted to make this dragon as acurrate as I could to what a Chinese dragon is suppose to look like. The dragons are said to be made up of many different types of animals of the Earth. Head: Camel, Scales: Carp (fish) 117 scales total - 81 infused with yang, the good, and 36 infused with yin the bad. This evens out the dragons temper and personality. I didn't put the scales on the dragon I was afraid of ruining it. So I guess this dragon is going to be unbalanced. Here is the rest of the Earth animals Horns: Giant Stag (deer), Eyes: hare (rabbit), Ears: Bull, Neck: Snake, Belly: Clam, Paws: Tigers, and Claws: Eagle. I grabed references of these animals to come up with my Chinese dragon. The symbol at the top left corner means dragon in Chinese.

I would also like to share pictures of my art room and the new easel I got for Christmas. This is the first painting I got to paint on this easel. Yes, I know this room is a mess. It's the spare room in my house and It's also the junk room of the house.

Sweet Dreams

I finally did it! I painted my first portrait and I'm pleased on how it turned out. I had some problems at first with the nose but the final result turned out just the way I wanted it to. The nose is the hardest thing for me to paint on a person. Just trying to get the shading just right and the shape so that it ends up looking like the person you are trying to paint is the hardest part.
This painting is not for sale.

Field of Flowers

This painting was done with using just the palette knife. I've done other paintings in the past and I love the texture and the dramatic results you get when using the knife.

Interior

This painting I chose to use an impressionist style of painting. I had alot of fun with this painting. I'm so use to trying to make things more realistic. The canvas is also painted on the sides so it doesn't have to be framed.

Butterfly

I won't have anytime this weekend to paint. I'm heading down to Pittsburgh for the weekend to visit with my sister. We're taking our kids to the zoo and to the Carnegie museum. I'm hoping to get some more inspiration for my next painting.

Moon

This painting was inspired by my dad. On labor day weekend I got a chance to check out my dad's new telescope I got to see the planet Jupiter and it's moons, a couple of shooting stars and a meteor shatter into the earth's atmosphere. Really cool stuff. On this painting I used acrylic and oils.

Weaver and Captain Hook

I know this isn't painting related but I wanted to share my experience with you. Here are some pics from an awesome show I saw last night. My good friend Weaver (lead guitar and vocals) has put his first solo album out called Transfer. He is starting a new project called Captain Hook. These guys ROCK! Jen B. (Vocals) is one of the best singers I've ever heard. Her voice reminds me of Janis Joplin. These guys are a must see live they put on a great show. I put Weaver's web address in my links so you could check him out and listen to sample songs from his solo album.

Gateway to the soul

I think this is one of my favorites. I've always loved drawing eyes, it's what brings your art to life. This is another small painting 10in x 10in.

Comment

I was in the middle of trying to put a picture in for my profile. I don't have a url to grab this picture from so I had to post the pic first and copy it to my profile. While I was doing so I got a nice comment. I didn't want to leave my profile picture in this post and I didn't want to delete this comment. So wrote this to explain why there is no picture here. Anyway thanks for this comment.

Muddy Elephant

Today was the perfect day to paint. It's raining outside so I don't have to worry about missing out on a nice day. It was great to have some time to myself to paint two paintings in one day.

Great White

This is a small painting on a 7in x 5in canvas. I tried a different style out just to challenge myself and see if I could do it. I'm going to have to take a better picture, this one is a little blurry and you can't see much detail.

Peaceful Getaway

This painting was finished late friday night. I really enjoyed painting this one. I didn't want to stop adding more to it but I knew that if I didn't stop I would've ruined it. I hope that you enjoy viewing this painting as much as I enjoyed painting it.

Mood Swing

Here's a painting I finished over the weekend. I call it mood swing because I started out with a good mood until what I was trying to paint wasn't turning out the way I wanted it to. So I just got frustrated with it and just starting slapping colors on the canvas with my palette knife. I'm undecided If I like or not but I'll share it with you anyway. I currently have this painting on ebay. It will be listed for 4 more days If anyone is interested in it. This painting has been SOLD!!!

Work In Progress

Welcome to my Blog. I'm currently working on some paintings to post on my blog. I'm hoping to have something posted by the end of next week. I work full time at a local commercial printing company so the only time I have to work on my paintings is on the weekends. Please keep checking back.
